Also, missing scenes during canon, Chen Moqun and Lan Xinjie’s shifting relationship as it increasingly centers on Lin Nansheng, Zuo Qiuming’s perspective on Lin Nansheng, anything specifically focused on their work in whatever sense (codes, intelligence, radios, …), Lin Nansheng/Chen Moqun in any context, Lin Nansheng coping with chronic pain even years after he’s shot, Lin Nansheng meets the (historical) Joseph Needham in Chongqing…

Drabble: Finding a Voice

Summary: Guo Changcheng navigates the accents he speaks.
Word Count: 100
Author's note: A drabble in response to nnozomi's prompt, "Guo Changcheng coming into his own," also partly inspired by the request for "cultural and linguistic issues."
Guo Changcheng's aunt and uncle didn't scold him about his country accent when they took him in. Nevertheless, their expectations were clear, and he quickly picked up their brisk and precise manner of speaking. In his own little act of rebellion, however, he used his grandmother's accent to speak with her whenever he visited her grave.
Now, he drew upon his grandmother's speech patterns when he spoke with frightened witnesses. Slower and more melodic than the clipped accent of the city, the gentle drawl reduced intimidation and encouraged trust—and kept a little bit of his grandmother alive in himself.
