Medium Likes: fic, art, icons, recs, vids, etc
Medium DNWs: anything audio only as I'm HoH, anything to do with the actors rather than characters

General Likes: hurt-comfort, domesticity, time-travel, found family, pining, I have huge loyalty and competence kinks, smut (if it is revealing of character, I'm not a fan of porn for the sake of porn), caretaking, overwhelming emotions/emotional breakdowns, missing scenes, casefic, angst, (with a happy ending), identity porn, canon-compliant, canon-divergence, pre-canon, post-canon, sex-pollen/magic made them do it if it focuses on character reactions/character development/coping
General DNWs: incest, AUs that have no tie to canon, day in the life/coffee shop type fic,

Fandom: Guardian Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan, getting together, established relationship, identity shenanigans, first time (YOH or modern); Shen Wei and Da Qing in YOH or modern times; Zhao Yunlan and Da Qing, especially Da Qing's role in Zhao Yunlan's early life; Shen Wei and Zhu Hong coming to terms with each other; missing scenes from YOH era, especially baby Shen Wei and cradle-robber Zhao Yunlan grappling with feelings, missions/combat, one of them injured in a dangerous situation and the other having to rescue/protect/caretake; Shen Wei's childhood/youth, how he came to join the alliance/become Hei Pao Shi, the ordeals he endured after losing his brother; pre-canon Shen Wei coping with the modern world after 'waking up'; post-canon fixit, especially dealing with rebuilding Dixing, Dixing/Haixing relations, the SID's role in such; post-canon Shen Wei becoming publicly known as Dixingren/Hei Pao Shi and how that affects his life and relationships; post-canon domesticity; post-canon orphan acquisition; teamfic, the team being badass, the team being family, the team all banding together to support/protect/kick ass for one of them; all the hurt-comfort and angst, preferably with Shen Wei as the one being hurt; time loops/groundhog day; Shen Wei interacting with other Dixingren post-canon and getting to help/make things better; Shen Wei hiding/protecting other Dixingren from the SID during or pre-canon; Shen Wei teaching little Dixingren to use their powers and how that makes him feel

DNW: focus on Ye Zun, redemption for Ye Zun that doesn't take work and serious earning of trust, focus on any characters or relationships other than Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei (background relationships and team/found family interactions are awesome, though), character bashing, unhappy ending, Zhao Yunlan calling Shen Wei wife or wifey, Zhao Xinci in any role other than antagonistic

Hello there! You had so many incredible things to play with, it was hard to pick!

Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan (Kunlun)

I went for missing scene YOHE dash of danger/injury with a pinch of pining.

Partially kickstarted by a comment from Yaaurens during a rewatch about when/if ZYL ever dropped 'Xiao Wei' at some point in the past/drama verse

I hope you enjoy!

They had realized too late that this particular rebel faction was fighting with poisoned weapons. A strike was not always necessary- it burned through clothing and lingered, paralyzing fingers and limbs.

Shen Wei had his hands full as it is, keeping his own assailants at a distance while striking long range. He was losing too many allies at once, there were too many calls for him- warnings, requests for assistance, apologies.

He turns to block an attack from behind, kicking them back neatly onto the sword of one of his allies, turning to brace for another attack.

“Xiao Wei!”

It was enough to get the young Envoy’s attention, just enough for Shen Wei to whirl in Kunlun’s direction and avoid a blade that would have slid too neatly into his shoulder.

Shen Wei’s eyes meet Kunlun’s through the chaos, and Kunlun winks at him, grinning like he hasn’t once again turned his world upside down, even as he fires his weapon and takes down another rebel.

Xiao Wei!

The fight turns easier, then, once Kunlun is at his back (safe, laughing, teasing) and this rebel faction is chased off and taken care of for now. Once it’s quiet, it’s just the two of them back to back, breathing hard and still prepared for another fight.

Shen Wei turns to him, and Kunlun grins, taking a step forward, a hand out to Shen Wei, before something flashes over his face (Pain, Kunlun is in pain), his legs buckle under him, and he’s tipping forward, dropping at Shen Wei’s feet, managing to raise his gun and shoot the knee of a rebel who was getting too close for comfort, before going still.

Later, those who survived the ambush will remember the Black Cloaked Envoy ruthlessly taking down the rest of the attacking rebels without moving from his spot, guarding Kunlun.

---

It takes Kunlun longer to come around than the healers anticipated, and nobody questions Shen Wei’s silent vigil at his side, mask abandoned close at hand.

His head turns toward Shen Wei, eyes opening like he knows Shen Wei will be there when he wakes up, his expression softening into one of his amused, affectionate smiles. His eyes are still a little unfocused from sleep and whatever the healers had given him, but he reaches a hand out, fingers tracing over Shen Wei’s cheeks and nose, before he blinks a few times, pulling his hand back, slow.

“You’ll need a little more time to make sure the poison is fully out of your system before being up,” Shen Wei says, trying to focus on the facts, and not the feelings. “There’s no rush. The threat has been taken care of.”

“I’ll bet,” Kunlun says, his expression focusing on Shen Wei in that way he has, the way that makes Shen Wei feel terrifyingly known. “Shen Wei-”

“You might not have gotten so lucky,” Shen Wei interrupts, abruptly. “Coming over to me like that. We were adapting to the new situation, you risked-”

“I saw a poisoned blade coming for you when you didn’t,” Kunlun says. “I had to.”

“You didn’t have to,” Shen Wei tells him, suddenly feeling surprisingly agitated. “Thank you for saving me once again, but you did not have to. I’ve been stabbed before. I would have been fine.”

Kunlun sucks in a breath. “You always-” he says, then seems to catch himself, looking up at Shen Wei with a crooked smile. A deflection Shen Wei is desperate to get to the bottom of, but he can’t bring himself to. Not today.

“I was afraid,” Shen Wei says, quiet, after they sit in comfortable silence for a few beats. He can say that because this is Kunlun, who is the first to know him after so many years. “The battle was nearly over. I saw you reaching for me, and then you collapsed in front of me, and i could do nothing.”

“Not nothing,” Kunlun says, wagging a finger at Shen Wei. “I let my guard down. It is not your responsibility to look out for me. What sort of mighty general would I be if I was taken down so easily, eh?”

Shen Wei’s body instinctively jolts forward a bit to apologize, eyes widening, but is interrupted when Da Qing comes barrelling in, eyes wide and fists clenched at his side, the young Yashou looking at Kunlun with a mix of worry and vulnerability that Shen Wei is all too familiar with.

Kunlun catches Shen Wei’s eye as Da Qing pretends not to fuss over him, rolling his eyes with a grin, then patting the spot closest to him in invitation.

“We’ll talk later,” Kunlun says, his fingers curling easily against Shen Wei’s wrist, warm and alive, his thumb brushing idly over Shen Wei’s pulse.

It’s in that moment, as Shen Wei listens to Da Qing and Kunlun talk, staring at Kunlun’s hand that he realizes there was very, very little he would not do for him.

He just needs time to prove it.
