Prompts
Here are some (so many!!) very optional prompts, because I started brainstorming and couldn’t stop, oops! :-)

• Fic or art: the morning after Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan’s first night together (contemporary Dragon City or YOHE). How do they feel? What’s changed between them? Softness, connection, communication, domesticity, kisses, teasing, desire that can finally be expressed and acknowledged. Maybe uncertainty from one or other of them about where they stand / how serious this is? Complications because of their roles or because of secrets. Implications (or fears about implications) for the time loop.


• Meta / fic / translation thoughts about episode 1, 27:06 when Shen Wei looks at Zhao Yunlan’s file and thinks, “I hope you still remember our arrangement to meet,” and how that might be reconciled with his having already worked out about the time loop. Can the line be interpreted as “I wish you still remembered”? Is he having a moment of doubt about the time loop—emotionally, if not logically? Etc.


• Fic or art about Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan flirting or being protective of or thinking about each other during a case. Maybe it's another case involving one of Shen Wei's students? Or something else at the university? Shen Wei juggling his identities as the professor and the Envoy, and/or Zhao Yunlan being attracted and suspicious at the same time.


• Something from Guo Changcheng's pov, when he's starting out at the SID. Maybe about how scary everyone is, and how unsure of himself he is at first, and how he slowly comes to see their admirable, less-scary sides.


• Anything about Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan & Da Qing -- domestic, at work, crackfic...


• Anything about Zhao Yunlan being a domestic disaster, with or without the other SID characters being involved or Shen Wei having Opinions. Episode 8, with the failed book con and the state of Zhao Yunlan's apartment was what really cemented my love for him and the show. :-D


• The SID team finding out about Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan's relationship. Maybe someone walks in on them kissing or even just standing too close, and rumours spread? Or rumours spread before they've actually got together! Or does Zhao Yunlan announce it to the team?


• YOHE fic or art about Zhao Yunlan groping Ma Gui’s other, non-Hallows inventions, and the hijinks that might ensue, eg, bodyswaps, telepathy, teleportation, etc.


• Fic or art where Zhu Hong finds her way through a wormhole (maybe from the Yashou territory portal?) and shows up in YOHE. Bonus points for Zhu Hong/Fu You.


• Post-canon Zhu Hong/Li Qian fic or art. Their shared grieving for Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan and how they get past that, or something about the repercussions to Li Qian for using the Sundial, or how they use their diplomatic and scientific resources, respectively, to try to bring Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan back. (A sequel to or something playing with the ideas in like sunlight on scales would be utterly amazing. My word count limit preference doesn’t apply in this case, and emotional hurt/comfort is okay.)


• Fic or meta about Zhao Xinci /& Zhang Shi, especially post-canon. My angst DNW doesn’t apply for these two.

Specific art prompts

• Zhao Yunlan sprawling, being cheerfully oblivious to the disastrous state of his flat (pre-ep 8), teasing, pointing with his lollipop or with chopsticks. Ooh, pre-canon Zhao Yunlan smoking!! *fans self*


• Cat!Da Qing and any of the SID team, eg, sleeping on Lin Jing’s desk or his keyboard, hanging out in the library with Wang Zheng while she reads a romance novel, stealing fishcakes off Guo Changcheng’s desk, etc.


• Guo Changcheng wearing Chu Shuzhi’s clothes.


• Shen Wei, Zhao Yunlan, and/or the rest of the SID being guests of honour at a Yashou feast or event.

Episode 1 mini-meta

Hi dear! :D You asked for "meta / fic / translation thoughts about episode 1, 27:06 when Shen Wei looks at Zhao Yunlan’s file and thinks, “I hope you still remember our arrangement to meet,” and how that might be reconciled with his having already worked out about the time loop" so here are some of my thoughts, briefly:

Going with the idea that Shen Wei already knows of the time loop or at least suspects (I think the inclusion of the lollipop in the accompanying flashback gives weight to this), I read that line as a moment of longing - not doubt, exactly, just this feeling of “I wish you already knew me like you did before and you promised you would”, if that makes sense? I do think him remembering Kunlun’s lines about not having regrets shows that he’s feeling more than a little uncertain about how things might play out from here, because what if it doesn’t work out how he thinks it will, or what if he changes something that disrupts the time loop and it means he doesn’t meet Kunlun? That would be one of his biggest regrets.

I like the translation of “I hope you still remember our arrangement to meet” because it makes me think of a circle coming to meet at a point, and it’s a pretty accurate translation but I also like the more emotional translation of “promise”.

I love that the immediate flashback following that line is one where Kunlun tells Shen Wei “you still have me” - right now Shen Wei has found him again as Zhao Yunlan, but he doesn’t know him like he did before, but he hopes that he will, and he holds on to the promise that they will meet again. If Kulun knew him once, he will know him again. That tiny visual detail of Shen Wei’s thumb brushing the edge of Zhao Yunlan’s photo gets me every single time, it’s so small but says so much!

(I'm also working on a ficlet for you that I can hopefully post soon, though not today :D)

Yes, that would be an absolute disaster -- excellent point. So maybe part of what's happening here (as well as some internal flailing FEELS about "at last!! he's here!!") is Shen Wei reassuring himself that he just has to go on and do the best he can, no regrets. And, after all, Kunlun believed in him.

Yes, it's kind of sad English doesn't have an analogous word with all those layers of connotations, isn't it? (In Korean, there's yaksok (약속) which means both "promise" and "date/appointment" -- I've always presumed the Chinese word here is similar.)
