In the bottom left pic he's waving at the camera, but he's so far away, he might as well be in his own happy world on the water. Communing with the sea. (I played around with some whimsical options for that corner, and decided on the fishies with arie's help. :">)

» Wu Xie & Xiao Ge - "I can't let Wu Xie face the danger alone." by TheMeaninglessArt
It took me a few watches to realize how the vidder had structured the clips, and then I had many feelings about it.
It basically starts with a montage of all the Pingxie moments in the first, let's say third or so of the drama. Which is set mostly in a desert, then in a jungle that's in the middle of the desert (just go with it), then in the desert again. There's lots of critters and all kinds of mortal peril and also mud. Xiaoge has to save Wu Xie a lot.
Fun fact! The scene between 0:45 and 0:50 wasn't planned; the actor stumbled and they went with it in character (or so I've Been Told). Feeling very normal about Wu Xie looking all confused and hopeful when Xiaoge holds him up and then making the biggest puppy eyes when the moment is over.
The palm-slicing-open at 0:55 is a whole DMBJ thing; Xiaoge's blood has healing properties and can repel all sorts of critters, and Wu Xie's blood is also a bit magic, so they just keep cutting their hands open at the drop of a hat. Like, to help. ALL THE TIME.
The scene between 2:10 and 2:17 is one of those instances where Xiaoge just shows up out of absolute nowhere to save Wu Xie (in this case: from super poisonous snakes). Like I cannot stress enough how much Xiaoge was not present in this scene before Wu Xie was falling.
Okay, then at 2:40 Xiaoge vanishes into the big jade H O L E and we hear Wu Xie saying that he will wait for Xiaoge, because of course.
Then! Follows a montage of all the times Xiaoge left during that jungle arc, for reasons known and unknown and revealed later. He just. Leaves sometimes! That's just a Xiaoge thing that's present in all the dramas. It would probably be fairer to say that sometimes he just shows up. Then leaves again. Baby Muppet Wu Xie doesn't handle it super well, but, you know, tries to be supportive!
(Unrelated to anything: his little puppy tail at 3:30!)
Then the "he is always leaving" montage changes to scenes of Xiaoge SHOWING UP to rescue Wu Xie, and then from 4:33 you have Wu Xie just GLOWING as he tells Pangzi that no, actually, Xiaoge is right there. Like, look at his little face! He's so happy and so in love and I'm very verklempt about it.
Anyway, in preparation for this ramble I finally looked up the lyrics for the song that's playing over the first montage, and I was in no way prepared. According to Google Translate, the chorus goes "Use this lifetime to meet once in a while / In exchange for having you by my side day and night", which is just an amazing Pingxie line (if true). I love this song a lot.
And then! The scene I already told you about, with the dripping water and the canteen. Ugh, my whole stupid heart. And Xiage RETURNS. He always returns! As we learned in the previous montage! It might take a long while, but he'll always return to Wu Xie. With many of his memories wiped, in this case, except for the most important one.
After the desert and a bit of a hospital interlude, the next big arc of the drama starts.
In conclusion! They are so in love, I love this vid, thanks for coming to my TED talk. <3

-The lyrics just fit so well that I didn't go too crazy on the editing and left the pace fairly slow
-Included scenes where the show audio plays over the instrumentals for Maximum Feels because I really love the instrumentals of this song

-I'm proud of the pacing and even though I cut a chunk out of the song it is pretty clean

-SW feels through various smiles
-Experimented with more effects and really liked how they turned out, glitch effects to emphasize the emotional impact, for example a scene from episode 23 where SW drops the knife I made the glitch effect happen right when the knife hit the ground so you can almost feel the clatter of it against the floor through the screen, same with a scene where SW hits the pole
-When I was making this I was watching a lot of professional video editing guides and commentaries so I feel like I learned a lot making it so I am always proud when rewatching it
-I challenged myself to be very deliberate about lining up the lyrics and I think I accomplished it, especially with every instance of "fake a smile" lining up with SW smiling
-Just really the perfect lyrics for SW

-The ending always makes myself cry which is a good thing

-Tried to create a vibe from the beginning with only nighttime or dark scenes before SW sees ZYL again for the first time and everything turns bright
-The bridge of the song is very repetitive lyrically with increasing intensity of the tone so I tried to mimic that with the clips I used shortening and shortening in length with every repeat of the lyrics to really make it feel like something was building to a climactic moment
-Plus I had fun with a spinny colorful galaxy overlay
That's all for now, hopefully I will make more Guardian vids in the future. I have a few ideas in mind but I really enjoy video editing and learning more and more so I want to make sure I try something new with every vid. Each one is like an experiment to me and I am so happy when I can achieve the goal I set for myself. I think I have done that with every vid so far, so I am proud of them. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to geek out about my own stuff.

I tried to match up the photos so that it looks like Long-ge is often admiring Bai Yu and his delightfully low necklines, or just photos that I get similar ~ vibes ~ from, because I thought that would be fun so I hope that works. <3
