So I put this on in the background while trying to get some work done and promptly kept getting distracted because this is a lovely selection of music - thank you so much for putting it together! I'll definitely listen to it again in the future.

And if you want to talk a bit about your thinking behind the tracks, I'd also love to hear about that, but 'they just had the right sound vibes' is also a fair answer XD

Oh yay, that makes me happy! I've also been listening to it quite a bit while taking walks, actually. 😀

So, I started collecting some songs that I thought might fit together and that had kind of evocative titles, and once I had a good selection I started putting them in some order that sounded good (vibes!). I played around until the vaguest of narratives emerged and all of the transitions seemed smooth. Ended up with a lot of piano and strings!

Basically, it starts with the main idea of two paths crossing (or bodies of water, I suppose) and then we have a little chunk of music about Shen Wei becoming the BCE legend, and being back on Haixing and running into Kunlun/Zhao Yunlan again. Drama! Sadness! Feelings!

Then there's a bit of a lighthearted section where we assume they get together and experience some happiness, set to a sexy Ed Sheeran cover. 🤭

I think I basically put "Hearing" in there because I really like it, but if you wanted to, you could make it about the blindness arc ending in layers and layers of big feelings! Such feelings! Such strings!

From there it's basically all downhill. "Mercy" is all about the final fight and sacrifices and death, with all those sad little notes and weeping violin.

The way "Follow the Map" builds and builds and grows all beautiful at the end, that's either Yunlan lighting up the Dixing sky, or some kind of vague hopeful ending where they find a way back to the world of the living together. Your choice! 😊

I put the Guardian soundtrack songs in there to make it more obviously a Weilan playlist, but I really liked how they fit in with the rest of the tracks, too.

And that's how the mix came to be. Thank you for letting me ramble on about it! <3

Your wishlist coincided nicely with my rewatch of The Rebel! Is it odd to say it was a joy to put these clips together?? :D Just, uh, watching him cry -- and the different ways he cries -- was enjoyable.
