I have a particular fondness for Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan fic set in the first half of the show (identity porn, ZYL's suspicion and flirting, their cat-and-mouse games, no one has any boundaries!), though established relationship probably works better later on. And I prefer Chu Shuzhi/Guo Changcheng fic to be set a bit later, once Changcheng has found his feet (I prefer the age and experience gaps to be balanced/mitigated somewhat). I love Ye Olde Haixing Era, and positive takes on post-canon Dixing (canon-compliance, fix-its, or handwavy AUs). Envoy reveals for people other than Zhao Yunlan. Hallows-instigated shenanigans.
I especially love fanworks that engage with canon and the characters motivations and strengths/weaknesses. Zhao Yunlan being competent in the workplace and a disaster at home, burying his self-worth issues under a ton of glib charm and boundary-crossing. Shen Wei being stubborn and sure of himself, kind, aching at his core, never 100% belonging either in Haixing or Dixing but gradually finding a family with Zhao Yunlan and the SID. Da Qing being both very cat and very loyal. Chu Shuzhi being a gruff secret marshmallow, with similar "belonging" issues to Shen Wei but a ton more self-denial. Changcheng finding friendship and affection at the SID and increasingly straddling two worlds: the very respectable high-status household of his uncle and aunt, and the cheerfully casual and diverse, hidden-from-the-public environment at work. Etc!
Zhao Yunlan is my favourite! I'm very into his calculated casual/scruffy/faux bad boy aesthetic. (Please don't tidy him up, even temporarily!) I love the lollipops, too. And I love how determined he is to protect everyone, from his team to random strangers on the street/in a hospital. How his interactions with Shen Wei and Guo Changcheng's example make him examine his prejudices, and he quickly expands his idea of justice and who deserves protection. I love his friendship with Da Qing, lounging around, teasing, listening to and trusting each other. And he's great at turning a problem into an advantage (eg, Cong Bo) and two-birds-with-one-stone solutions.
My feelings about Shen Wei include: that being the Envoy and being Dixingren are important, integral parts of him. That he cares deeply about the fate of Dixing and the world. (I'm very "why not both?" about his Envoy and Professor identities, including in post-canon AUs; I think he enjoys having duties (= a way to make a difference) and responsibilities (= a place to fit in and be needed), rather than seeing them as unwanted burdens.) I'm also really interested in the ways he has assimilated into Haixing society and, conversely, the subtle ways he might have resisted assimilating. What small cultural things does he stubbornly retain from his youth (and does Zhao Yunlan (or Chu Shuzhi, or Guo Changcheng, or Da Qing) notice?)? How does his identity colour his view of ordinary Haixing things? What is up with him and technology? I see him as stubborn, strategic, principled and pragmatic, conscious of his own power (dark energy and social), kind, self-contained but not shy, ruthless-when-necessary, and sometimes sweet.

Fandom-specific DNWs: Passive, very innocent or clueless Shen Wei. Novel canon or characterisation (and Zhao Yunlan saying "baby" or "wife" or other endearments). I'm writing a light-hearted Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan fic which includes several cooking scenes. I am 100% not a cook, even in cuisines closer to home (Aotearoa New Zealand). I've done my best with youtube and google, but I would so very much appreciate someone with knowledge of Chinese food and cooking being willing to read through, to correct my mistakes and make suggestions for how to, er, beef up that aspect. (Sorry, sorry!) It's not finished yet, and I'll have some structural rewriting to do but hopefully it will be ready for review sometime in the next couple of months. Expected wordcount is ~40k.

- Fic/art: Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan relationship stuff, especially in the workplace / during a case / outsider POV. (Flirting, get-together, or established relationship.)
- Fic/art: Recently Sasamelons and Buriedbybooks ran a Guardian anniversary event called The Marvelous (Mis)adventures of Da Qing, King of Cats, in which people wrote more-or-less canon-compliant episode tags about Da Qing, like little post-credit sequences on a TV show (or if you know The Dragon Prince, those little sketches during the closing credits). I loved this so much, now I want fic or art episode tags for other SID members, too! These could be set anywhere in the episode -- or be flashbacks, or dream sequences, or something else loosely tied to the ep in some way. Like... a little Chu Shuzhi moment tied to episode 4? Lin Jing after episode 7? Guo Changcheng during ep 17? Chu Shuzhi post-fight club? What does Dr Cheng do after the video game? (Does she ever apologise to ZYL?) Any of them at any time, basically. *g*
- Fic/art: Zhao Yunlan accidentally leaving something in his jacket pocket when he gives it to Shen Wei in the Hanga arc -- something that reveals his feelings, or just something that makes Shen Wei go "he's so adorkable!" Does Shen Wei respond? Do they end up furtively passing flirty notes?
- Fic/art: Early canon, a case where Zhao Yunlan surprises himself by jumping into the line of fire/taking a literal or metaphorical bullet to protect a Dixingren, and this leads to some soul-searching. Shen Wei's (and/or the rest of the SID's) reaction to same. (Feel free to skip the case and cut straight to the aftermath.)
- Fic/art: The SID team finding out about Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan's relationship, or Chu Shuzhi and Guo Changcheng's, and Having Opinions. Maybe someone walks in on them kissing or even just standing too close, and rumours spread? Or rumours spread before they've actually got together! Or does Zhao Yunlan or Guo Changcheng announce it to the team?
- Fic/art/meta: Exploration of the immigrant/refugee/outsider aspects of ordinary Dixingren in Haixing. Similarly, individual Yashou joining human society in Dragon City, or a human joining Yashou society for some reason (romantic attachment to a Yashou, anthropology, a novelist researching a book, someone on the run from family or the authorities). OCs welcome.
- Fic/art: Zhu Hong shows up in YOHE. Bonus points for her spilling secrets about the timeline, and Zhao Yunlan trying to cover and explain them away. More bonus points for Zhu Hong/Fu You.
- Fic/art: Zheng Yi as an adult -- what kind of person does she grow into? Does she ever return to Dixing, or help the SID in some way (either in the future or via time travel)?
- Fic/art: Zhao Xinci meets the Envoy for the first time and/or finds out Shen Wei is the Envoy. (I'm on the fence about whether he knows Shen Wei's identity when he warns Zhao Yunlan to stay away from him; he might just know Shen Wei is Dixingren, after hearing what happened at the wedding. So later Envoy reveals work for me as well as earlier ones. (And for earlier ones, I'd appreciate some hint as to why Shen Wei chose to break his cover, if it was voluntary.))
- Fic/art: In ep 25, Shen Wei and Lin Jing rescue Zhao Yunlan from his kidnapping, but we never see them team up to find him. I'd love to see/read that!
- Fic/art: Post-canon Zhu Hong/Li Qian. Their shared grieving for Shen Wei, Zhao Yunlan and Lin Jing, and how they get past that, or something about the repercussions to Li Qian for using the Sundial. Bonus for fix-its. (A sequel to or something playing with the ideas in like sunlight on scales would be utterly amazing. My word count limit preference doesn’t apply in this case, and emotional hurt/comfort is welcome.)
- Fic/art: Cheng Xinyan/Da Ji -- mostly I just like the idea of Dr Cheng learning more about the special/non-human people in Dragon City, and Da Ji is so prickly and unlucky in love, I feel like she could really use some kindness and a happy ending.
- Fic/art/meta: Zhao Xinci /& Zhang Shi, especially post-canon. What happens once they're not sharing a body? Does Zhang Shi make other friends? Is Zhao Xinci jealous or disapproving? Do they remain family? How Extremely Awkward is it that Zhang Shi is occupying Zhao Yunlan's body? (My angst DNW doesn’t apply for these two.)
- Meta/fic: Thoughts about Zhang Shi's agenda/history/take on the world. Why did he leave The Ancient Mysteries in the SID library for Zhao Yunlan to find? Why didn't he tell the SID about the Lantern?
- Meta/fic: The SID characters having different feelings about or discussing the changes at the SID as Zhao Yunlan becomes more open to allowing law-abiding Dixingren to stay in Haixing. How much of an adjustment is it? Are they relieved? Do they all approve?
